Adapting Our Ways: Managing Scotland's Climate Risk: Consultation to inform Scotland's Climate Change Adaptation Framework (SG 24/06/08)
Due to past emissions, a certain degree of climate change is now unavoidable over the coming decades. Therefore, we must act to safeguard our communities and the long-term prosperity of our environment and our economy by adapting to the unavoidable impacts of climate change. This consultation will inform the forthcoming Scotland's Climate Change Adaptation Framework.

Proposed Changes to Planning Policy Statement 6: Planning for Town Centres (DCLG 10/07/08)
This consultation on revisions to Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 6 follows the commitment in the Planning White Paper 'Planning for a Sustainable Future' to review the current approach in PPS6 to assessing the impact of proposals outside town centres, in a way which maintains a strong focus on our town centre first policy.

Single Outcome Agreements (SG 30/06/08)
All 32 local authorities in Scotland have finalised Single Outcome Agreements setting out how they will take advantage of greater flexibility to deliver services to meet local needs.
The Outcome Agreements signed off by local authorities and the Scottish Government reflect decisions by councils on the most effective routes to deliver services in line with local needs and national priorities.

Sustainable Communities Initiative (SG 27/06/08)
The Scottish Sustainable Communities Initiative (SSCI) has recently been launched. Large or small scale proposals, whether for new build or for reshaping existing neighbourhoods, in rural or urban areas around the country, can all be considered as SSCI projects, reflecting the character and diversity of Scotland. Those intending submitting a proposal under the SSCI should notify the Scottish Government of their intentions by August 6, 2008, including an outline site plan.

Art of the Scottish landscape (SG 23/06/08)
People in Scotland are being encouraged to submit images, words and music representing their experiences of distinct landscapes of Scotland to a new web-based resource recently launched. Environment Minister Michael Russell said "The Scottish Landscape Forum wants to hear from the people of Scotland over the coming year on how they perceive Scotland, evoking the identity and essence of those places they have a strong relationship with."

Antonine Wall gains World Heritage status (HS 08/07/08)
Linda Fabiani, MSP, Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture, today (Tuesday, 8 July) welcomed the decision by the World Heritage Committee to grant the Antonine Wall, the Roman frontier in Scotland, World Heritage Site status. The announcement, made in Quebec, grants Scotland its fifth World Heritage Site which is its first Roman Site.

New action plan for housing market renewal in North and Midlands (CABE 10/07/08)
A new Action plan for delivering successful places has been drawn up by CABE, English Heritage and the Sustainable Development Commission, to plan ahead. It proposes a shift in the agenda away from housing, and towards a broad-based, design-led regeneration programme, with placemaking at its heart.
