Q S3O-6604
Cathie Craigie: To ask the Scottish Executive what steps it is taking to
preserve buildings of historical interest. (SP 20/04/09)
A Answered by Michael Russell (23/04/09): I was so taken aback that I
have lost my place. The Government has set out in our statement of Scottish
historic environment policy how local authorities, Historic Scotland and
others should work together to preserve historical buildings. We are also
investing significantly in the built heritage. Last year, for example, we
provided £13 million of support through the building repair grant scheme,
conservation area regeneration schemes and city heritage trusts across
Scotland. The member might like to note that the conservation area
regeneration schemes in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth will provide support of
£700,000 to the local community over five years.

Further discussion to this question.
Q S3W-22535
Aileen Campbell: To ask the Scottish Executive what engagement it has had
with the Scottish Renaissance Town movement. (SP 02/04/09)
A Answered by John Swinney (21/04/09): We are not directly engaged
with the Scottish Renaissance Town initiative, but Architecture and Design
Scotland, a non-departmental public body funded by the Scottish Government,
is a partner in the initiative.
Q Robin
Harper (S3O-06480): To ask the Scottish Executive what its position is on
the most efficient way to obtain and register accurate measurements of the
energy performance of buildings. (SP 26/03/09)
A Answered by Stewart Stevenson, Minister for Transport,
Infrastructure and Climate Change: For calculating energy use in buildings
based on standardised occupancy patterns for different building types, the
Government uses as its calculation tools the standard assessment procedure
2005 for dwellings and the simplified building energy model for
non-domestic buildings. The tools calculate only the energy loads that are
directly associated with the building-that is, lighting, heating and
cooling-and do not take account of process loads or the use of domestic
appliances. http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/business/officialReports/meetingsParliament/or-09/sor0402-02.htm#Col16496

Imagining
Edinburgh: An Historian's Enquiry with Professor Robert Morris
Thursday 7 May, 7pm at Informatics Forum, 10 Crichton Street, Edinburgh
Professor Morris will explore why two features of Edinburgh's history are
overlooked. Until recently Edinburgh was the second largest industrial city
in Scotland. The built environment still makes it one of the greatest
nineteenth century cities in Europe. Do we need to think a little more about
both these aspects of urban history?
