
Fife Council – Built Heritage Officer

Based within the Policy & Place Team (Planning Services) the successful candidate will work alongside a fellow Built Heritage Officer within a small team of environmental specialists (archaeology, ecology and trees), supplying specialist advice to planners, decision-makers and customers on the management of change in relation to listed buildings, conservation areas and the wider built historic environment
Core duties
- Providing specialist advice on listed buildings, conservation areas and historic built heritage in connections with applications for planning permission.
- Preparing reports, policy, and built heritage advice for decision-makers, developers and customers.
- Contributing to the development and delivery of the built heritage component of policies and programmes, including Fife’s development plan.
- Involvement in built heritage conservation projects including community projects, Conservation Area Regeneration Schemes and Townscape Heritage schemes.
The Person
An enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a positive attitude to customer care. Applicants should possess a knowledge of built heritage conservation, including relevant legislation and procedures.
- Educated to SCQF level 9, which includes a degree or equivalent in an historic architectural, built environment, planning or related subject.
- Preferably a member of, or working towards membership, of a professional body such as the Institute of Historic Building Conservation & Environmental Management, the Royal Town Planning Institute, the Chartered Institute of Archaeology or some related professional body.
- The post is advertised as a career progression post working 36 hours per week on a salary grade of £40,358.57 – £44,225.49 per year pro-rata.
