Board Diversity in Public and Third Sector Organisations

Board Diversity in Public and Third Sector Organisations

Date: Tuesday 20 February 2018 from 18:00 – 20:00.
Venue: Scottish Storytelling Centre, 43-45 High Street, Edinburgh EH1 1SR.
Organiser: BEFS.

Join BEFS on the evening of Tuesday, 20th February 2018 for a discussion on Board Diversity in Public and Third Sector organisations.

Our experienced panel members; Jane Ryder (Chair – HES, previously CE – OSCR) Talat Yaqoob (Director – Equate Scotland, Chair – Women 50:50) and Beltus Etchu Ojong (CEO – Next Step Initiative); will explore both how organisations have changed, and how we need to continue to develop.

The Scottish Government Race Equality Action Plan (December 2017), and the recently passed Gender Representation on Public Boards (Scotland) Bill both strive to ensure that civic bodies in Scotland accurately represent the diversity of our society.

Different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences can add considerable value to board discussions and the strategic decisions they make. Diverse boards are more likely to engage in debate and challenge one another—and ultimately make better decisions for their organisations.

Whether the questions for your Board are one of gender, disability, ethnicity, race, sexuality – or age; there is much to be gained in discussing and exploring the perspectives new voices can give to the governance of your organisation.
