Freya Rhodes – Communications Officer

Freya joined BEFS in 2026, drawn to the organisation’s work communicating the value of Scotland’s built environment to the people and communities who shape it.

Freya holds a Master of Education from the University of Dundee, with a research focus on how neurodiversity impacts educational outcomes. She began her career working in Widening Access at the University of St Andrews, focusing on alternative pathways into study and delivering targeted outreach and communications to groups underrepresented in higher education.

This interest in making institutions feel reachable carried through into the arts and culture sector, where Freya spent three years as a Communications Assistant at Dundee Contemporary Arts, delivering marketing activity across the organisation’s artistic programme and demonstrating the impact of DCA’s work to its members and supporters. She later moved to Perth Theatre & Concert Hall as Marketing & Social Media Executive, managing the venue’s social media presence.

At BEFS, Freya hopes to bring that same instinct to the built environment, helping a sector that shapes daily life feel just as relevant to the people and communities it serves.

Freya has a particular interest in the history of Scotland’s tenements and industrial heritage. More broadly, she’s drawn to the way cultural spaces act as community hubs, and the role culture and heritage play in enriching local life.
